Nicholas Alico

Nicholas Alico is a M.S. student in Computer Science at Georgia Tech, where he is currently
pursuing a Specialization in Machine Learning. Prior to matriculating to Georgia Tech, Nick
graduated from Penn State University and the Schreyer Honors College with a B.S. in
Human-Centered Design and Development with a Focus in HCI. Nick aspires to act as a liaison
across the fields of engineering, UX, and healthcare by addressing challenging problems in a
user-centric manner through research, design, and engineering.

Within the Design Intelligence Lab, Nick conducts research with the VERA team. His prior research experience lies at the intersection of Software Engineering, UX, and HCI, where he conducted research and completed his honors thesis investigating competency-based learning within UX and engineering curriculum led by Dr. Steve Haynes. Outside of GT, Nick currently works as a UX Engineer at Charles River Analytics in Cambridge, MA. Here, he researches, designs, and develops cutting-edge Human-AI applications for research programs in the healthcare, defense, and technology industries.

Ruhma Khan

Ruhma Mehek Khan is a graduate student in Computer Science at the Georgia Institute of Technology. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Social Sciences. Before pursuing her master’s, Ruhma worked as a Research Fellow at Microsoft and previously as a Software Developer at Adobe. She is passionate about conducting research that has a tangible impact, utilizing her computer science skills to solve everyday problems that affect large populations.

Ruhma is actively involved in community-building, having led several mentorship and networking initiatives. Her contributions have been recognized with the Adobe Women in Technology (WiT) Scholarship and the Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC) Student Scholarship. In addition to her technical interests, Ruhma has a strong passion for Psychology and Economics. In her free time, she enjoys reading and taking walks in nature.

Mahimul Islam

Mahimul Islam is a full stack engineer at Genome Medical Inc. and a current MS student in Computer Science at Georgia Tech. His journey in tech began after completing a bachelor’s degree in Bangladesh, and in 2021, he moved to the US to further pursue his passion.

Artificial intelligence has always fascinated Mahimul, and he’s deeply committed to exploring its potential to transform the way we interact with technology. Mahimul believes that AI can not only augment our capabilities but also open up new avenues for human creativity and problem-solving. Through his work and studies, Mahimul is focused on developing innovative solutions that bridge the gap between technology and human experience.

Jake Finnegan

Jake Finnegan is a graduate research assistant and student at Georgia Tech, specializing in Interactive Intelligence. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Information Technology from Virginia Tech and a Master of Science in Business Analytics from William & Mary. Outside of DILab, he works as an AI/ML engineer, supporting the US Navy and other DoD agencies with data and analytics solutions. Jake’s research interests include unsupervised learning, natural language processing, and predictive analysis.

Shashank Verma

Shashank Verma is working on a Master’s in Computer Science with specialization in Machine Learning at Georgia Tech. He did his bachelor’s in Computer Science in India and works at Google. Shashank is a Graduate Research Assistant for the Ivy project and his research focuses on adaptive and interactive learning in Education AI.

Samuel Taubman

Sam Taubman is an MSCS student at Georgia Tech specializing in Computing Systems. Currently, Sam works in the DILab on the SAMI project under Dr. Goel. Sam holds a B.S. in Chemistry from Appalachian State University and worked on oil seep drone air sampling methods under Dr. Swarthout. Sam’s research interests include utilizing AI for improving learning and applying AI to trading.
