The Return of Jill Watson: Georgia Tech’s Design Intelligence Laboratory and NSF’s National AI Institute for Adult Learning and Online Education have developed a new version of the virtual teaching assistant named Jill Watson that uses OpenAI’s ChatGPT, performs better that OpenAI’s Assistant service, enhances teaching and social presence, and correlates with improvement in student grades. Insofar as we know, this is the first time a Chatbot has been shown to improve teaching presence in online education for adult learners.
