Since its inception in 1980, AI Magazine has played an important role, both for AAAI and the AI community as a whole. It has also, during the 36 years of its illustrious history, undergone several transformations. Now the magazine is going through another such transition. After seventeen years of distinguished service, David Leake has decided to step down as editor-
in-chief—although fortunately he will continue to advise us as our new editor emeritus. I am honored and delighted to follow David.
